Phi Kappa Psi Returns to Wisconsin
Over Seven Decades Since Fraternity Had a Chapter at the Madison campus
UPDATE: The hard work has paid off in February and the University of Wisconsin Colony will be officially installed on Monday, March 7th. If you are a member of Phi Kappa Psi and would like to join in, please contact Recruitment/Expansion Consultant Adam Miller.
It has been 72 years since Phi Kappa Psi has had a presence on the largest college campus in the state of Wisconsin. Now, thanks to the hard work of the Phi Kappa Psi National Staff, and with the cooperation of the Greek Life staff and Interfraternity Council, the Fraternity is excited to announce the beginning of recruitment efforts on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.
Phi Psi’s recruitment team moved into their temporary residence on Sunday, February 6, to begin a one-month effort to recruit a new colony. Comprised of two recruitment consultants under the guidance of Director of Expansion, Corey J. Peart, the Phi Psi team will make every effort to show undergraduates, alumni and university officials that the National Fraternity is fully invested in the sustained success of a Phi Kappa Psi chapter on campus. Individual interviews and small events will be used to recruit high-quality men of character.
“We’re looking for men with strong academics, that show leadership qualities and an affinity for community service, to add to this already impressive Greek system,” Peart said.
To recruit and reward the best on campus, the Fraternity is offering two $500 scholarships this semester to two UW men demonstrating an active participation in community service.
Phi Kappa Psi became inactive on the campus in 1939 after financial difficulties forced the chapter to surrender its charter. While less than a dozen men from the chapter are alive today, Phi Kappa Psi has a great tradition in the state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Gamma Chapter at Beloit College has over 120 years of activity, and more than 1,500 members, many of whom are active in assisting with this expansion process. The Wisconsin Alumni Association is also a vibrant group of Phi Kappa Psi men, ready to help with a new group of students.
Expansion and recruitment is the immediate priority, but Phi Kappa Psi is invested and dedicated to the long-term survival of Phi Kappa Psi at Wisconsin-Madison and bringing the tradition of service and excellence of the Fraternity to the student population.
