Hiring Update - New Marketing Communications Manager

Garret Release Photo Web.jpgOctober 8, 2015 - The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity continues our record of attracting high quality professionals with our latest hire. We are thrilled to announce that Garret Walton (IUPUI '08) has joined Headquarters staff as our new Marketing Communications Manager.

The Marketing Communications Manager is a new addition to our communications team. Garret will primarily coordinate and develop much of the Fraternity's print and other media communications. This includes email and phone communications, promotional marketing materials, and much of the content for The Shield

Garret is a 2012 graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (with a concentration in Public Relations) and a minor in Biology. Garret joins the Fraternity Headquarters team after working with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Department of Revenue. During his tenure with those organizations, Garret managed multiple communications projects and designed/developed materials for their blog, various guides, and presentations. He also was part of a team who gathered and organized crucial information leading to a successful congressional field hearing by the U.S. Congress.

We decided to ask Garret a few questions about joining the Phi Kappa Psi staff.

Phi Psi: What attracted you to this position? What excites you most about joining staff?
Garret: I've been much more discerning in which jobs I choose to apply to lately. When the opportunity showed up in my inbox that the Fraternity Headquarters was looking for help with marketing communications, it was something that I knew I wanted to do. I was excited to apply and even more excited when I got the position.

Phi Psi: If you don't mind, tell us an interesting fact about you.
Garret: I absolutely love the food service industry. Maybe it's an addiction to being abused by the general public, but I find myself coming back to work in restaurants time and again. I especially enjoy training new employees and teaching them the small things that make a difference between decent customer service and excellent customer service.

Phi Psi: What are some of your hobbies? What kinds of things do you like to do in your free time?
Garret:  I don't often have free time, but I usually nerd out when I get a chance. Between designing levels in Super Mario Maker and playing Magic: The Gathering, I enjoy people watching and eating at a great pub. If you're ever in Indy, there are plenty of options.

Garret's will officially step into the role on Monday, October 19th. At that time, you'll be able to contact him via email at GDW@phikappapsi.com. Join us in welcoming him to the team.
