Getting Started

How to Discuss Your Movember Campaign

How you introduce your Movember campaign makes a significant difference in creating desirable results. Movember isn't just a chance to raise money for a cause—it's a chance for you to share your passion for these causes (testicular cancer, prostate cancer, mental health and physical activity) with others in an effort for a better future for men.

We encourage you to start by reflecting on your own experiences and choosing how you want to communicate to others. Here are examples from Phi Psi members who participated in 2015:

"I decided to participate in Movember because of my grandfather. At the prime age of 84, he's beaten cancer, recovered from two separate disabling strokes and still has the energy to go fishing in the Florida Keys and hunting in Alaska." -Zach Hawtof (Cal '12)

"I work in public health, so #PhiPsiMovember fits perfectly with my career. I also had an uncle with prostate cancer." -Ashley Burns (Bucknell '02)

The important part is to make it unique to you. A genuine approach in your interactions with others will make a big difference for engaging your target audiences.

How It Works

Start by listening to the Adobe Connect webinar, which walks you through some of the basics of #PhiPsiMovember.

Getting started with your Movember campaign requires a few simple steps:

  1. Create a Personal Page
  2. Head to Movember.com to create a personal profile. We encourage you to add a personal message in the description to bring your cause to life and utilize a customized URL to make your profile easily accessible/professional.

  3. Create a Team Page
  4. As you create an individual profile, Movember will prompt you to either 'Join' or 'Create' an existing team. If your chapter, alumni association, alumni club or other affiliation chooses to create a team page to centralize donations (highly recommended), create one at this screen. The creator of the page will serve as the team captain.

Team names should follow this structure:
Indiana Alpha - DePauw University or Houston Alumni Association

If you don't plan to join any particular team page, simply join the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity team
Create a customized link for your team page (i.e. moteam.com/phipsialaska).

  5. Join the Phi Kappa Psi Network
  6. Movember Logo.pngClick on the 'Networks' tab just below your profile picture. In the search bar, type in 'Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity' and click 'Join This Network.' This will give you access to the overall network of Phi Psis and friends participating in this challenge. We will regularly monitor progress for each individual and group to assess who is at the top of our community leaderboard. To help us achieve our $15,000 goal, your team profile MUST be a part of our network. If you are a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity team, your totals will automatically be counted towards the overall network.

  7. Share Your #PhiPsiMovember Story Day 30 PicStitch.jpg
  8. Post pictures of your moustache to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or another social media platform of your choice with the hashtag #PhiPsiMovember. Use this as an opportunity to share your story as to why you're involved with Movember—you might even become internet famous as we highlight participation throughout the month.
