Foundation Welcomes Thawley as Chief Advancement Officer
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, January 23, 2017 — After a national search, Ben Nicol is pleased to welcome Drew M. Thawley to the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation leadership team as the Chief Advancement Officer.
“I am confident that Drew’s experience and leadership in fundraising, alumni engagement, campaign management and marketing in nonprofit organizations will help advance the Foundation to the next level,” said CEO Ben Nicol. “We were very deliberate in our selection and Drew’s energy and enthusiasm, strong track record of development success, and comfort in a team oriented and performance based organization are precisely what the Foundation needs to lead and manage our advancement operations.
Drew comes to the Foundation with more than 18 years of strategic leadership, development, alumni engagement, communications and consulting experience primarily in the nonprofit space. He currently is the President of a boutique consulting firm that provides development counsel to nonprofit boards and executives and previously was Vice President at Pursuant Ketchum, a full service nonprofit consulting firm. Clients have included several exclusive private schools, trade associations and public radio affiliates, as well as a national health research foundation, a large regional hospital, a Big 10 university athletics program, and an international humanitarian relief organization. “Drew’s breadth of experience as a hands-on executive and embedded consultant in a number of organizations with robust fundraising and donor engagement divisions will be of significant benefit to Phi Psi. Drew is the perfect individual to build upon our past successes as we look to even greater success in the future,” said Chris Hedberg, Development Committee Chairman.
Drew will be responsible for providing vision and leadership for all fundraising initiatives, including prospect research, alumni/donor engagement, planned giving, annual giving, stewardship and capital and major campaigns. He will lead the team responsible for increasing the organization’s revenue, cultivating and soliciting gift prospects and fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization as the Foundation supports the Fraternity, its membership, the headquarters and associated house corporations and chapters.
Through his career, Drew has significantly increased fundraising activity, redefined alumni engagement in practice and theory, integrated marketing into the advancement model, overseen the development and execution of organizational strategic plans and successfully launched several campaigns.
“Drew understands and appreciates the importance of the Greek experience”, explained Chairman Fred Hegele of Drew’s previous experience as both the President and CEO of the Alpha Sigma Phi Foundation from 2009 to 2014 and his role as President and CEO of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity from 2004 to 2008. “Having exited the Greek world a time or two to explore other nonprofit markets and learn valuable skills and perspective, I continue to hold the mission of fraternities in very high regard and find there to be no equal in other nonprofit work,” commented Drew.
The Phi Kappa Psi Foundation (d/b/a Phi Psi Foundation; Endowment Fund of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity) was formed to aid, encourage, promote and contribute to the education and scholastic attainments of Phi Psis and other students across the nation. The Foundation, organized in 1914, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, public educational foundation whose primary mission is to assist college students in meeting their educational objectives through scholarships, grants, fellowships and assistantships, while promoting learning, high ethical standards and constructive citizenship.
