Arizona State to re-charter in February
Phi Kappa Psi is proud to announce that the Arizona State Colony is scheduled to re-charter on February 8, 2020.
Formed in Fall 2017 and approved to charter in September 2019, the colony will return as Phi Psi’s Arizona Beta chapter. The chapter was the first fraternity established on Arizona State University’s campus in 1962. The Arizona Beta chapter will be Phi Psi’s only active chapter in the state of Arizona.
The path to recolonization wasn’t always easy. “The biggest challenge we faced as a colony early on was recruitment,” shares past president Eric Dehart. “Starting with only a dozen guys in our first month made it very difficult to recruit considering most fraternities at ASU have 70 to 100 members. Against all odds we managed to hit the campus average in our second semester, and we continue to recruit some of the finest gentlemen on campus today.”
Today, the colony boasts 51 undergraduate members. These men have worked hard to meet the guidelines required to charter and are poised to represent Phi Kappa Psi in the highest regard.
“We couldn’t be more excited for Arizona Beta’s return to the inner circle of our Fraternity,” said Zachary Herge (Toledo ’10), director of expansion for Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. “The men of the colony have put in an exceptional amount of time and work over the past two years in order to get where they are today. As prominent members of the Arizona State community, they have represented our Fraternity well and have lived the values of Phi Kappa Psi. We’re excited to fully initiate them into our brotherhood.”
