DIRECTOR OF VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Volunteer Engagement will lead Phi Kappa Psi’s efforts to recruit, support, and retain volunteers who serve our undergraduate members, chapters, alumni associations, and the National Fraternity. This individual will oversee strategies to build a strong volunteer pipeline, fill volunteer vacancies, provide resources and training, foster communities of peer support, analyze feedback to guide future strategies, and develop a culture of support and recognition. As a new addition to the Alumni Engagement team, this position will also work closely with key stakeholders and Fraternity leadership to advance the mission of Phi Kappa Psi.

Ultimately, this role will ensure that volunteer service with Phi Kappa Psi is meaningful, supportive, and rewarding – helping alumni and friends of the Fraternity make a positive impact on our members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Recruitment and Pipeline Development

  • Manage a comprehensive volunteer recruitment plan that promotes diverse participation by engaging alumni, parents, families, and community members through targeted outreach and communications for each audience.
  • Identify and track potential volunteers, ensuring placement into roles they are appropriately suited for and able to succeed in.

Volunteer Support + Development

  • Serve as the primary staff liaison for volunteer communication and problem-solving.
  • Analyze volunteer engagement, retention, and feedback to assess the impact of current efforts and guide future strategies.
  • Maintain and expand the Volunteer Handbook, ensuring clear expectations and guidance for all volunteers who support Phi Kappa Psi.
  • Provide additional training and continuing education opportunities for volunteers through both virtual and in-person programs.

Volunteer Cohorts and Peer Engagement

  • Oversee volunteer cohort communities that connect peers with shared roles or contexts to exchange best practices, address challenges, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Fraternity.
  • Use cohort feedback to inform staff and the Executive Council on organizational needs.

Volunteer Recognition and Retention

  • Develop and implement a variety of stewardship strategies to celebrate volunteer contributions, including awards, spotlights, and personalized recognition.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration

  • Align volunteer engagement strategies with the Fraternity’s broader mission and goals.
  • Partner with the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation, Canonsburg Corporation, and other stakeholders for any initiatives or programs regarding volunteerism.
  • Support the adoption, maintenance, and utilization of technology systems that enhance data integrity, communication efforts, and volunteer engagement.
  • Objectively review all organized efforts to inform future strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience; preferred background in education, communications, nonprofit management, public administration, or related fields
  • Preferred familiarity with fraternities and sororities
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and adapting to evolving needs
  • Ability to travel, including evenings and weekends, as needed
