Phi Kappa Psi Elects New Archons
Indianapolis, July 30, 2017 – On June 24, 2017, the six District Councils of Phi Kappa Psi elected new Archons to the Executive Council. Since 1886, the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity has been controlled by undergraduates. This unique system of governance is achieved by our governing body, the Executive Council, which is made up of 10 members, six of which are elected undergraduates. Archons represent the six Districts of Phi Kappa Psi, which divide the nation into roughly equal parts based on the number of chapters represented. Archons are elected every odd numbered year and serve two-year terms. The following are Phi Kappa Psi’s six new archons for the next biennium.
DISTRICT I – Austin Shission (University of Rhode Island ’16)
Major: Microbiology
A native of West Wyoming, PA, Austin’s hobbies are all Greek-related. He was drawn to becoming a Phi Psi because the Fraternity seemed to break the Greek stereotypes. As a proud and active Brother, Austin ran for Archon because he sought to give back to the Fraternity that has given so much to him.
DISTRICT II – Hunter Music (Ashland ’14)
Major: Information Systems and Entrepreneurship
Hunter grew up in the mid-west city of Crestline, OH. In high school he was active all four years as a member of clubs, as well as several sports such as football, basketball, tennis and cross-country. After graduating at the top of his class as Valedictorian, Hunter began his collegiate journey at Ashland University where he studies Information Systems and Entrepreneurship. He is currently employed by the J.M. Smucker Company where he has interned for three years. As the Archon of District II, he looks forward to fostering the success and ideals of our noble Fraternity.
DISTRICT III – Garrett Himstedt (Ball State ’16)
Major: Political Science and Public Communication
As a freshman at Ball State, Garrett knew little about Greek life nor did he have the interest to find out. However, when the opportunity arose to meet some of the Phi Psis, he was drawn in by how different they all were from one another and yet they still displayed a camaraderie. The young men became a group of his closest friends who accepted him for who he was which was significant. As he became more involved with the Indiana Iota chapter and began to take on leadership positions, he grew to be very passionate not only with the business of his own chapter, but for the Fraternity as a whole. The opportunity to represent District III and the Fraternity as an Archon felt like a great way to make a positive impact on something that has become very important.
DISTRICT IV – Drake Broussard (Louisiana-Lafayette ’16)
Major: Organizational Communications
Drake grew up approximately 21 miles southeast of Lafayette, LA in the small town of New Iberia, LA.Although he kept to himself most of the time as the quiet kid in school, Drake maintained a small circle of friends. After leaving high school he felt the desire to push himself and break out of his shell. With that notion, he decided to participate in recruitment. Little did he know that it would be the brothers of Phi Psi who would push him out of that quiet shell, far beyond what he ever imagined.
DISTRICT V – Robin Bajpai (Kansas ’17)
Major: FinanceRobin hails from Overland Park, KS and is a rising sophomore. His hobbies are reading, swimming and playing with his dog Ralph. Robin decided to become a Phi Psi because after exploring many chapters, he felt the brothers were good guys simply by being themselves and having fun. He wanted to be a part of that comradery. Robin’s time at Phi Psi has made him a better person, leader and student, while also introducing him to brothers who have become his best friends. He wants men to be able to have the same great experience for a long time to come which is what motivated him to run for Archon of District V. While Robin has not solidified his future career goals, he is very much interested in investment banking and the venture capital space.
DISTRICT VI – Luis Gonzalez Medina (UC-Irvine ’16)
Major: Criminology, Law, & Society
Luis dedicates himself to Phi Psi and is currently Vice President of his chapter. Ensuring a healthy work-life balance, he enjoys researching exoneration cases, performing events as a DJ in local venues, and working out at the Anteater Recreation Center on campus. Wanting to continue his work as a dedicated Phi Psi, Luis ran for Archon because he saw it as his duty as a brother of California Kappa to represent District VI at the National level and give back to the Fraternity that has shaped his life. His future plans include attending law school or pursuing an MBA.
