CHAPTER NEWS – DISTRICT IV

15 CHAPTERS | 2 COLONIES

Alabama Alpha – Alabama

Submitted By: Vincent Barbera ‘23

We finished the semester strong and have appointed a Rush team to start recruitment for the fall. It was a selective process of interviews with over 50 applicants with only eight being appointed to the team. We are looking to bring on pledge class of 60 members. We have also appointed every committee head along with building strong committees for the fall. Our end-of-semester formal took place, and it was a great gathering of all the brothers.

Alabama Gamma – Huntsville

Submitted By: Eli Herlevic ‘24, Astin Star ‘23

This spring, we organized and hosted a new philanthropic event, Marchtoberfest, benefiting Alabama Possible — a nonprofit dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education and job support. We raised funds through food sales, raffles, competitions, and donations. The event drew over 100 participants and involved more than 10 campus organizations. We raised over $4,000, earning recognition as the top philanthropic effort. Our chapter contributed over 800 service hours — the highest on campus — with active members volunteering primarily at Enable Gardens, a local community garden that supports food access and sustainability. Congratulations to Brian Niswonger ‘23, for leading Marchtoberfest and to Brad Taul ‘21, for putting in over 80 individual service hours this semester.

This semester, we proudly supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand through dedicated fundraising efforts. Hosting three successful bake sales, we raised hundreds of dollars for childhood cancer research. Additionally, we welcomed four new brothers into our chapter, marking our largest new member class since 2021. Their initiation signifies not only the growth of our chapter but also the continued strength of our brotherhood. We’re thrilled to see them take on leadership roles, contributing fresh perspectives and enthusiasm as we approach fall Rush. We are grateful for everyone’s generosity and commitment this semester, as together we continue making a positive impact both on campus and in the broader community.

Tennessee Delta – Vanderbilt

Submitted By: Christopher DeCamillo ‘24

This academic year was a major milestone for us at Vanderbilt. In November, the chapter officially received its charter, marking the beginning of a new era. The moment reflected years of dedication, growth, and commitment to building a strong and lasting brotherhood. The chapter demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, and service. Members upheld high academic standards and remained active across campus. One highlight was Vanderbilt football’s win over top ranked Alabama, a campus-wide moment of pride that brought the brotherhood closer together. The chapter also launched its most successful philanthropy effort to date, raising a record amount of money for suicide prevention. The campaign reflected a deep commitment to mental health awareness and making a difference beyond campus.

We would like to spotlight a few brothers who represent our dedication to service: Josh Novick ‘22 – trained for and ran a 40-mile marathon in honor of Professor Drew Sanderford, raising a total of $12,000. Andrew Post ‘24 – collected hundreds of photos of Nico (a new member who passed away) from all his friends at UVA, printed and compiled them into a binder for Nico’s parents to keep. Noah Altamar ‘23 – spearheaded philanthropy fundraising week for Hoothon, an organization that raises money for the UVA Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network. The rest of our brothers are also deeply involved in the community, including firefighters, EMTs, and members of a wide variety of clubs. About one-fourth of all brothers work part-time jobs, and over half of all brothers are involved in an intramural or club sport. Max Velazquez ‘23 is a member of the varsity squash team.
